On 7 May 2020, Ifeanyi Okpala woke a winner. He learnt via Twitter that he won the 2020 Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering Outstanding MS Thesis Award. Since then, Nigerians have taken to his timeline to congratulate him on this laudable feat.
The egghead isn’t a novice to bagging prizes for his outstanding performances. As an undergraduate at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Okpala graduated with a CGPA of 4.74/5.00 while winning six prizes in the process. He would later notch a perfect grade of 4.0/4.0 during his master’s programme at the University of Alabama Graduate School.
Despite his academic excellence, Okpala has a notable record of leadership and community engagements at several levels. For example, he served as the President of Nigerian Universities Engineering Students’ Association (NUESA), FUNAAB Chapter, 2015. President EFCC CDS group, Lagos, 2017. The list is long and rich.
Currently, Okpala is a civil engineering doctoral student at the University of Alabama Graduate School and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) amidst other notable professional bodies.
