The Mentoring Assistance for Youths and Entrepreneur Initiative (MAYEIN), has organised online reading challenge for teenagers and awarded winners N20,000 each.
A registered organisation, MAYEIN organised the book-a-thon event for teenagers this year to commemorate the celebration of the World Book and Copyright Day.
The organisation had always engaged in a collection of formal and digital literacy activities for youths across schools and community in Nigeria; and its book-a-thon event for teenagers held annually on 23 April in Ibadan and Lagos.
Harnessing the opportunity of technology which has made life easier amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the MAYEIN online challenge exposed participants to new realms about some African authors as well as understanding copyright and the importance of copyright protection in Nigeria.
The online challenge which started on 15 April ended 22 April, with submission of entries from the teenage participants.
During the event, the participants also had the opportunity to learn that reading books is more than just reading for leisure; but also engaged in reviewing books in order to deepen their comprehension.
