The United Nations has praised Nigeria’s efforts to curtail the spread and of overcoming the corona virus pandemic.
The praise came as part of commendations issued by the UN about the collective efforts being made by developing countries to contain the pandemic.
In a video which featured the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, he said some developing countries “have shown a remarkable capacity to response” in handling the spread of COVID-19.
Guterres stated that, “I was quite impressed, for instance, to see Nigeria putting in place and immediately establishing hospital(s); and I saw difficulties in countries that are much more developed to quickly do the same.
“There are efforts done by countries in developing world that we should point because they represent a very strong determination; but resources available are of course insufficient and the health services are usually extremely out of proportion with the needs of pandemic like this. So massive support for developing world is absolutely necessary.”
The latest update from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) as at the time of filing this report revealed that Nigeria has 210 confirmed cases of COVID-19; with 25 people already discharged and 4 deaths recorded.
