Abubakar Abubakar Breaks 57-Year-Old Record in ABU, Graduates with First Class in Law

Abubakar Abubakar has broken a 57-year-old record in Ahmadu Bello University – ABU, Zaria, becoming the first student to graduate with first class in the Faculty of Law.
This became known today when the results were released after the Faculty Board’s meeting.
A native of Bauchi state, Abubakar who noted that many brilliant students had passed through the faculty since its inception in 1962, disclosed that his happiness could not be expressed in words.
According to him, “I feel very much happy because this is a record worth celebrating. For 57 years since establishment of this faculty, I know many brilliant students have passed before me and nobody was lucky enough to have it.
“Alhamdulillah, my dream has come through; so I am very much happy. I am grateful to Almighty Allah for making this. In fact, no word can express how happy I am right now.”
The university scholar disclosed that he didn’t plan for this feat from the outset of his programme. But the determination to make a first class started while in his third year; despite the fear of no such precedent.
“Actually, when I was in 300 level I began to dream. I dreamed of being the first to graduate with a first class in this faculty. But I wasn’t sure that it was possible because there was no precedent; before me nobody had it. So I was afraid. However, I followed my dream honestly and vigorously. I never got tired. I prayed and I kept reading and studying.”
Meanwhile, he advised Nigerian students and youths to be more dedicated to the pursuit of excellence, emphasising that every record out there is meant to be broken.
“I advise the Nigerian youths to think and believe that nothing is impossible in this world. When we have the determination and dedication to do something, then our belief should be that whatever is worth doing is worth doing well.
“So even if there is nobody, we should know that every record is there to be broken. There is always somebody who would be the first and some people will follow. I advise Nigerian students and the youths to focus and dedicate themselves to study. Whatever they are doing in whatever field, nothing is impossible. The sky is their limit.”
ABU Zaria was one of the first generation universities established after Nigeria’s independence. Since 1962, nobody had graduated with a first class from the faculty, which has produced many Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) and chief justices.
