A lady identified as Victory Onya Njah has broken a 43-year-old record by graduating with a First Class in Economics at the University of Jos.
No student has ever graduated since inception of the programme until Victory broke the record.
According to a tweet by UNIJOS Breaking News, “Since the inception of the department of Economics, University of Jos, 43 years ago, no First Class graduate has been recorded.
“Victory Onya Njah became the first student to achieve such a historical feat by graduating with a First Class in Economics. Let’s celebrate her.”
Likewise, a colleague of the university scholar, Itz Gsm, in a post on Facebook wrote, “Meet Onya Trendy Victory my friend, my coursemate, a girl with a heart of gold who just made history by being the first person since the inception of the department of Economic in the University of Jos in 1975 to graduate with a FIRST CLASS HONORS.
“Vic, you have made all of us proud, you finally broke the yoke. This is just the beginning of greater things to come. Keep on going higher dear.”
Established as one of the pioneering departments in the Faculty of Social Sciences, under the headship of Dr. Moses Otigba of blessed memory, the institution’s department of economics came into existence in 1976.
Academic programmes available in the department include: Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.), Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programmes in Economics.
The University of Jos itself started as a campus of the University of Ibadan in November, 1971.
