One of the top recording label in Nigeria, Chocolate City, has entered into an effective partnership with a leading music group in the United States, the Warner Music Group.
The effective collaboration between the two recording giants will pave way for Chocolate City to finally crack the international market while giving Warner Group the privilege to experience first-hand amazing talents assembled under the former’s label.
Under the new deal, stars under the Chocolate City platform will join WMG’s repertoire and receive the full backing of the company, which includes distribution and artistes’ service via its independent label service, ADA.
Speaking exclusively on the latest development, the Chief Executive Officer of Chocolate City, Audu Maikori, stated that:
“At chocolate city, we have always been passionate about discovering and developing the best talent across Africa and giving them a platform for global growth. The partnership with Warner Music Group is unique in the sense that our clients get the best of both words—curated and bespoke services by a highly experienced team across Africa and a dedicated global team to further push their music and their brands.”
Speaking on the importance of the deal to the group and the amazing talents in the Nigerian music industry, Warner Music executive VP Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, Alfonso Perez Soto, stated that:
‘’The music scene in Nigeria is so rich and diverse that it’s important that we develop bespoke entrepreneurial strategies. At the same time, we will keep in mind the lessons learned from other emerging markets, for instance Latin America where we successfully broke local artists globally. We have great affinity with chocolate city’s creative and ambitious approach and we’re excited about Warner’s role in bringing to life their vision of taking their music worldwide’’
The deal will no doubt have a very positive effect on Chocolate City, which has the desire of breaking into the international market.
WMG will also assist Chocolate City in its quest of signing young and talented artistes while also expanding its reach by collaborating with WMG South Africa.
Chocolate City is one of the biggest recording group in Africa, with Jude MI Abaga as one of its shinning lights and one of the best rappers in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
The deal will finally put a stamp on the Nigerian music industry as one of the best, if not the best in Africa. Artistes like Wizkid, Davido, and Psquare have collaborated with international artistes like Drake, Meek Mill and Rick Ross; while Dbanj was once signed on to Kanye West’s recording label.
