Models are generally regarded as the perfection of mother-nature. They are meant to be refined with the best of shapes, height, skin color, charisma and confidence. They are seen on billboards with their glowing skin; they appear on TV with their perfect body shape and walk on the runway with the confidence of a five-star general. Nigerian model, Janet Jumbo, possesses all the qualities to become the next big shot in the modeling industry.
Janet Jumbo was just a 16-year-old church girl who walked regularly to her church to listen to the gospel; with no formal training in etiquette and confidence; no brush or makeup; and yet, the young lady caught the attention of a scout and the rest they say is now history.
The Rivers state beauty sensation was discovered on her way to church by Raw Model’s scout, which took the initiative to recruit her into its platform, before making history as the first ever Nigerian Model to walk for the prestigious fashion outfit, Louis Vuitton.
Celebrating the feat, Raw Models shared her story on their official Instagram page. They wrote:
“History has been made again. Scouted this amazing beauty on the street of Lagos on her way back from church with no clue of what awaits her. Today, Janet Jumbo is the first Nigerian model to walk the Louis Vuitton show exclusively. We feel nothing but all shades of happiness and we can’t contain it.”
The Lagos-based model also took to social media to share exclusive photos from the show and thanked everyone that made it possible for her to achieve the milestone.
She said, “LOUIS VUITTON EXCLUSIVE Can’t believe I’m the first Nigerian model to walk for (@louiscuitton).” “I’m so grateful to everyone that made this happened (@raw_models) (@ashleybrokaw); (@nicolasghesquiere); (@imgmodels), I’m the happiest girl on the planet right now’’ Jumbo added.
The story of Jumbo brings back the sweet memory of former bread-seller turned model, Olajumoke Orisaguna, who shot her way to global fame and popularity when celebrity photographer TY Bello shot her by mistake during a routine photoshoot with famous rapper, Wale.
Nigerian models are one of the finest in Africa, if not the world. Famous hip hop artiste, Ayo Balogun aka Wizkid recently walked for Dolce and Gabbana and with this latest milestone, it won’t be out of way to say Nigerian models will be the most sought-after across the world in the nearest future.
