The Transverse editor, Kunle Adebajo, has won the Dapo Olorunyomi National Essay Competition (DONEC) organised under the aegis of the Association of Communication and Language Arts Students (ACLAS), University of Ibadan.
The award ceremony which held on Friday 1st December 2017 at the First Bank Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan, was graced by a large number of students and notable personalities.
The winner, Kunle Adebajo, has attracted many feathers to cap. He was winner, 2016 UISU Student Journalist of the year; winner of the 2016 Fisayo Soyombo Essay Competition; 2016 TLDS Award for the Punchline of the year; nominee, 2016 UCJ Prize for the Best Satirist; first runner-up, 2017 SIGMA Tertiary Essay Competition; second runner-up, 2017 Goal Nigeria Writing Games Competition; and grand prize winner, 2017 Chartered Institute of Personnel Management Essay Competition.
Presenting the award, the Head, Department of Communication and Language Arts, University of Ibadan, Ayo Ojebode, commended the organisers for choosing a topic that aptly reflected the passion and commitment of Mr. Olorunyomi, in whose honour the competition was organised. He noted that Mr. Olorunyomihas “literally put his life on the line countless times in the struggle for the enthronement of democracy in Nigeria”.
The winner said that he saw the competition as a pleasant experience, mostly because of the great respect he has for the honoree of the competition, MrDapoOlorunyomi, and the interest he had in the adopted theme.
While honouring Mr. Olorunyomi on behalf of ACLAS, the president, Moses Richoffor, noted that the Publisher of PREMIUM TIMES, has remained an invaluable inspiration to young people in the media industry.
The ceremony also featured entrepreneurial talks by emerging industry players in broadcasting, advertising, ICT and public relations.
