Elation as Nigeria’s Falconets seal World Cup place

Nigeria’s Falconets have sealedtheir place in the World Cup in spectacular style by beating the Basetsana of South Africa.

The Falconets have qualified for their ninth FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup after defeating their South African visitors 6-0 in the second leg of the final round qualifiers.

Pulling through 8-0 on aggregate, the Falconets flew the green-white-green flag high at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin city.

Managed by Christopher Danjuma, the team took charge of the game early; going through with Gift Monday’s sterling effort after seven minutes. Gift, in the 14th minute, almost doubled the Falconet’s lead; while Ajibade rounded the goalkeeper by slotting the ball into the net for another goal.

Adding to the Falconet’s lead were goals from Imo Anam, Nasarawa Amazons forward; Folashade Ijamilusi as well as Ajibade and Gift.

In the second half, the Falconets scored another goal, and the victory was completely sealed with 6-0 by Imo, before her colleague, Gift, was sent off for a second bookable offence.

With this feat attained, the Falconets appear ready for the World Cup; with high hopes of bringing the Cup to the African continent after taking second places in 2010 and 2014.
