Disc Jockey: The Perks Of This ‘Confusing’ Profession

So, I recently got a new form of exposure for my disc jockeying profession and I have become exposed to another world of the game. Not like I was totally unaware of the experiences and events that come along with this form of exposure, but as it is said: ‘Experience is the best teacher’, and nothing can compare with you experiencing things firsthand, without being under the auspices of a senior colleague- a situation where you are the ‘Chairman’ and the one who calls the shots.

These days, without spilling too much personal information, I have been put into a position or should I say ‘platform’ where my musical choice and preference is what millions of people listen to and will continue to listen to until I decide to leave that platform. See you;I know that in your mind, you’re beginning to wonder what this position might be. However, I will leave it at your discretion to take a wild guess at what this position might be. I can almost see the picture you have in your mind right now……. Exactly, you’re right. That’s exactly the position that I have been put into.

I know that this article is a total deviation from last week’s article, I just feel the need to slow down a little and deviate from my usual norm of being serious and discussing the negative things that affect us as deejays. This piece is specifically written to bring to your knowledge some of the good sides of being a disc jockey- the perks that keep your passion alive and constantly inform you about all the good reasons you decided to become a disc-jockey in the first place. It’s also very true that we are already used to this lifestyle, so it doesn’t really mean much to us, neither does it seem so spectacular to us anymore, but friends and family most times marvel at these occurrences and envy us when these things happen to us.Next week, I’ll continue from where I left off last week and conclude‘A Deejay’s Silent Struggles’.

Moving into the matters of this piece, I don’t seem to understand the relationship between females and music, I guess it’s their love for music that explains that, but what do I know? I can only guess. But in my experience, I have observed that ladies tend to transfer their love of music to the player of that music, especially if the human- in most cases, a male happens to be cute. ‘Then story e have finish’. And as a sharp guy, I can’t complain- I receive all the love as much as they come in different shapes and sizes. This is one part of this job that I can’t complain about. I mean, which normal guy will hate having beautiful ladies around you every time? That won’t be me anyway. However, I have a limit to this, and I do not allow this affect my life, because it can really be tempting.

Another perk that comes with this profession is the joy that comes with you making people happy and up on their feet dancing. That is one of the best sight that a deejay will never get tired to see. Especially for me, (At least as I no fit dance, I fit make other people dance scatter everywhere). The feeling even gets better at wedding receptions where you have family members up till the fourth generation at a reception party. Imagine having the grandparents, parents, the couples and younger cousins of the couples at a reception party- that is having four different age ranges to satisfy and for deejays, satisfying all of these people is always challenging. Therefore, seeing these people up on their feet, usually at different times of the party is a good sign and in most cases, folks from the older generation end up tipping the deejay for taking them back memory lane. So, in the end, you end up making everyone happy and making extra cash for yourself.

This last one is a favourite for deejays that like ‘the bottles’ and never joke with it. These bottles come in abundance especially in club settings when the deejay constantly dishes out songs that hit people in the right spots. I like to think music has its spirit and is almost a living thing especially when it comes in very loud decibels because its ability to move people both positively and negatively can be very shocking. Good deejays take advantage of this and enrich themselves both financially and in terms of the bottles too.

I could go on and on, the perks are just too numerous to write in just one article, but I have to stop here and continue some other time. But till then, be good and be the best.

PEACE!!!
